Atishi to Delhi Chief Secretary: Only 197 out of 4,716 people received help from flood funds

Atishi AAP Leader

Atishi stated that she examined the status of the 10,000 relief aid to be granted to flood-affected inhabitants of Delhi with the Principal Secretary of Revenue Ashwini Kumar and the Revenue Department's responsible authorities on Friday evening.

Atishi, a Delhi minister, wrote to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar about the disbursement of $10,000 to flood-affected families. The AAP leader was "absolutely shocked" to see that just 197 of the 4,716 impacted households had gotten the money. She further asked what "normal workdays of these officers" would be like if they showed "laxity" amid an emergency.

"I was shocked to learn that, of the 4,716 families who were staying in relief camps during the flood, only 197 families received the Delhi Government's 10,000 ex gratia relief," she wrote.

She stated that the Chief Secretary on July 15 directed senior officials to monitor and assist the District Administration with rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts, but that even after 10 days of the cabinet decision to provide 10,000 as relief to affected families, "19 IAS and 18 DANICs officers - along with 6 DMs, 6ADMs, and 1 SDM - have not been able to process this relief package for a mere 4,716 families."
