You have just 2 days left to file your income tax returns.

Filing an ITR: Individuals whose total income from all sources exceeds the exemption level must file an income tax return.

There are only 2 days left for people to file their income tax returns (ITRs). The Income Tax Department sent out a new notice to all taxpayers on Sunday, urging them to file their forms as soon as possible.

"Time is running out." There are only 2 days left to file your #ITR. #FileNow if you haven't filed your return for AY 2023-24 yet. The deadline to file your ITR is July 31, 2023," the Income Tax Department tweeted.

Individuals whose total income from all sources exceeds the exemption level are required to file income tax forms. Taxpayers will be penalised if they miss the deadline. Those who file their returns after the due date must pay a 5,000 fee (if they file after July 31 and before December 31) or a 10,000 fine if they file after December 31.

To prevent a last-minute rush, it is critical to submit ITRs as soon as possible because the government is not planning to extend the deadline.

E-verification mandatory

Don't believe your job is finished just because you've submitted your income tax forms. The following step is to e-verify the return within 30 days after filing it. Once you have finished this step, the return will be considered e-verified. You will receive a success message and a transaction ID on your mobile phone. As confirmation, an email will be sent to your registered email address.

The Income Tax Department announced on Friday that more than five crore returns have been filed by July 27 of this year. 4.46 crore of these returns had been e-verified. More over 2.69 crore of the 4.46 crore e-verified returns have been processed.

If you get stuck when filing your taxes, the Income Tax Department has a 24-hour assistance. Calls, live chats, Webex, and social media may all be used to contact the helpline and get your problem resolved.
