INDIA bloc leaders who are now in Manipur have expressed their sadness after seeing the conditions in which people are living in government-allocated relief camps.
Chowdhury
said that the visiting MPs will present their observations on Manipur in
Parliament.
"People are staying
in one hall," says Congress MP Phulodevi Netam, who is part of an
I.N.D.I.A. team visiting Manipur. The state government solely provides them with
daal-chawal; the youngsters do not get anything else to eat during the day.
There are no toilets or bathrooms. The conditions in which individuals are
living in camps are heartbreaking..."
They also questioned, as
reported by Indian Express, why there was a need to maintain relief camps for
over three months if the government's assertion that the state was quiet is
accurate.
On Saturday, a 21-member
opposition team landed in Manipur to inspect the ground situation and meet with
victims of the state's three-month ethnic rioting. They met with Manipur
Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Sunday and issued a paper detailing
their views.
