Stuart Broad announces his retirement
"My last game of cricket will be tomorrow or Monday," Broad
told Sky Sports Cricket at the end of day three. "It's been a fantastic
ride, and it's been an honour to wear the Nottinghamshire and England badges as
much as I have."
"I'm loving cricket as much as I've ever loved it; it's been a
fantastic series to be a part of, and I've always wanted to finish first.
"This has been the most fantastic and fun series to be a part
of."
Stuart Broad announced his retirement at the end of Day 3 of the fifth
Ashes Test at the Oval, bringing an end to a 17-year international career at
the end of the Ashes.
Stuart Broad made his England Test debut against Sri Lanka in December
2007. He soon rose to prominence due to his ability to stroke the ball and his
quickness.
Broad was a key player in England's Ashes victory in 2009, as he was one
of the series' leading wicket-takers.
Following in the footsteps of his teammate James Anderson, Broad became
the second English bowler to capture over 602 Test wickets.
He reached the milestone of 250 Test wickets in only 58 Test matches,
making him one of the fastest to do so.
Broad is also a capable lower-order batsman who has scored important runs
for England on various occasions.
Broad has also represented England in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and
Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in addition to Test cricket. He has represented
England in many ICC Cricket World Cups and ICC T20 World Cups.
