Himachal Pradesh is
now facing a financial loss of 75,000 crore from this year's monsoon due to the
persistent rain that caused landslides there, which resulted in the deaths of
71 people in the previous three days. According to the chief minister, Sukhvinder
Singh Sukhu, it would take at least a year to rebuild the infrastructure that
was destroyed by the rain. We have a problem resembling a mountain, the chief
minister declared. Tuesday saw a new landslip in Shimla that claimed 2 lives.
In Shimla's Krishna Nagar, five to seven homes were destroyed by the landslip.

will all be closed on Thursday due to the numerous landslides that have blocked
the roadways.
Up until August,
Himachal has already seen above-seasonal rainfall. This year's monsoon, which
lasted 54 days, brought 742mm of rain to the state, compared to the typical
730mm for the whole season. The state experienced the most extreme natural
disaster in the previous 50 years as a result of the unprecedented amount of rainfall
that was recorded in July.

According to the chief minister, who was quoted by Indian Express, the landslides were caused by poor structural design and careless building work done by foreign architects who were unaware of scientific construction techniques in the highlands. The CM noted that venerable multi-story government structures continue to stand strong without ever having to face any risk.
10 dead after
landslip and rain in Uttarakhand
10 people have
already died as a result of the Uttarakhand rainstorm, but 293 pilgrims who had
been stuck on the trail to the Madmaheshwar shrine in Rudraprayag since Monday
have been rescued by the government.
Six persons were
buried in debris at the Night Paradise Camp resort in the Lakshman Jhula region
on Monday after Lakshman Jhula was struck by a landslip.
Hoshiarpur,
Gurdaspur, and Rupnagar in Punjab were submerged as a result of the Bhakra and
Pong dams releasing extra water. While the authorities in Rupnagar issued
vacations for schools and Anganwadi centres in the affected regions on August
17–18, the Gurdaspur district administration ordered holidays in government and
private schools in flood-stricken villages till further instructions.
