Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory on Independence Day 2023


The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advise today for the complete dress rehearsal for tomorrow's Independence Day festivities to ensure a smooth flow of cars.

Following roads will be closed for inter-city and DTC buses from 12 am to 11 am:

·       Lothian Road from Chatta Rail Chowk to Kashmere Gate

·       Netaji Subash Marg from Chatta Rail Chowk to Delhi Gate

·       Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Marg

·       Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta (NH-24) and the Northern loop of ISBT Kashmere Gate

·       C-Hexagon, Shershah Road, Dr. Zakir Hussain Road, Pandara Road, Shahajahan Road, Akbar Road, Rajpath, Ashoka Road, KG Marg, Copernicus Marg, Tilak Marg, Purana Quila Road, Sikandara Road, Bhagwan Dass Road, and BSZ Marg

·       Ashoka Road from R/A Windsor Place to C-Hexagon

·       K.G. Marg from Ferozeshah Road to C-Hexagon

·       Vikas Marg, beyond loop towards Delhi secretariat

·       Mathura Road from Ashram Chowk to W point

 

According to the advisory, eight roads will be closed to the public from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday: Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, S.P Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road and its Link Road, Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT and Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover.

Vehicles without parking labels should avoid C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, J L Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate, and Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmere Gate via Salimgarh bypass.

Commuters commuting from north to south Delhi would have to take other routes such as Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, Mandir Marg, and Rani Jhansi Road.

It said that vehicular traffic in the east-west corridor will take alternate routes of NH-24, Nizamuddin Khatta, Barapula Road -- under AIIMS Flyover, Ring Road, Mathura Road, Subramania Bharti Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Prithviraj Road and Safdarjung Road, and so on, and that the Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony bridge towards Shanti Van will be closed.

Goods vehicle movement between the Nizamuddin and Wazirabad bridges will be barred from midnight on August 12 to 11 a.m. on August 13. Interstate buses will also be prohibited between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT during this time, according to the advice.

 City buses, including those operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), will not run on Ring Road between midnight on August 12 and 11 a.m. on August 13 and between ISBT and NH-24 (NH-9)/NH T-point on Ring Road, instead using alternate routes. According to the report, these buses may use G T Road, Wazirabad Road, and NH-24.

 Bus routes terminating at the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and the Delhi Central Railway Station will be reduced or redirected. Alternative routes to train stations, bus stops, and hospitals near the Independence Day ceremony will remain available.

 Meanwhile, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said on Saturday that metro services in the national capital will begin at 5 a.m. on Independence Day.

The DMRC indicated via a post on the microblogging site X (previously Twitter) that trains will operate every 30 minutes on all lines until 6 a.m.

"To assist passengers in attending the Independence Day ceremony on August 15, 2023 (Tuesday), Delhi Metro train services on all Lines will begin at 05.00 am from all terminal stations." Trains will run at a 30 minute interval on all lines until 06.00 a.m. Metro trains will run as usual after 6 a.m. and throughout the day," DMRC said in a statement.

 It further said that parking facilities at metro stations will be unavailable from 6 a.m. on August 14 to 2 p.m. on August 15.

"In addition, parking facilities will NOT BE AVAILABLE at Delhi Metro stations from 6 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2023, until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, due to Independence Day security measures." However, Metro train services will continue to operate as usual," DMRC noted.
