Earthquake tremors felt in Delhi-NCR, J&K and Afghanistan
Tremors from the earthquake were felt in parts of
Delhi-NCR, Jammu and Kashmir, and along the Afghan and Pakistani borders.
According to preliminary estimates, the magnitude of the earthquake is 5.8 on
the Richter scale.
The earthquake's epicentre was in Afghanistan's
Hindu Kush area, 418 kilometres northwest of Jammu and Kashmir's Gulmarg
district, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
In addition to Rajouri, Srinagar, and Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir, the tremors were also felt in Pakistani cities including Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar as well as the Katra region, the base camp of the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
Many people are said to have fled their homes after the tremor out of fear.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake's epicentre was in Afghanistan's Hindukush region, 36.38 degrees north latitude and 70.77 degrees east longitude.
So yet, no injuries or damage have been reported.
NCS tweeted, "Earthquake of Magnitude:5.8, Occurred on 05-08-2023, 21:31:48 IST, Lat: 36.38 & Long: 70.77, Depth: 181 Km, Location: Hindu Kush Region, Afghanistan."
The third earthquake to shake Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday was this one.A previous earthquake that struck Pakistan and the Hindu Kush region at 8.36 and 10.24 am, respectively, rocked the area.
According to NCS, an earthquake of a magnitude of 5.2 struck Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir at 8:36 am today, at a depth of about 129 kilometres.
"The quake struck twice around 9:30 p.m.," Preeti Shankar, who lives in a high-rise condominium in Noida on the national capital's eastern outskirts, told news agency PTI.
The earthquake occurred at 9:31 p.m., and its depth was 181 kilometres, according to NCS.
No casualties or material damage were reported in the morning.
Additionally, an earthquake of 4.3 magnitude hit Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the early hours of Thursday, the NCS had said.
